Tosh!!!

I can’t contain myself….. I’M GOING TO SEE DANIEL TOSH TOMORROW!!!  If you don’t know who this comedian is, then definitely check out Tosh.0 on comedy central.  This is quite possibly my favorite comedian and I have HUGE expectations for his stand-up.  I’ll be posting the details later!  Have a great week.

Knockout Lung Cancer

Organizing a fund raiser was one of the most challenging things I have ever attempted.  I learned so much, despite a lot of headaches along the way.  Here’s a rundown on my past experience.

Over winter break I wanted to do something special and inspiring.  I’ve always been a fan of basketball and I knew the game of knockout would be fun for lots of people.  My grandmother passed away from lung cancer.  All of these things lead to my idea of playing knockout to raise money for lung cancer.

I decided to put all of my proceeds towards the American Lung Association, because I knew they work very hard in trying to discover a cure.  Secondly, I thought of a t-shirt design that I knew would get people excited

My original date to hold the knockout games was March 18th, under the sponsoring of the Class of 2017.  I soon learned that I was not nearly prepared.  The date was pushed back and I got lots of additional help from my fellow Student Body Union members.  The new date became April 12th.  My peers did an awesome job taking t-shirt orders and helping organize the event.  They even came up with great ideas such as prizes for the winners and raffles.  Out of the 70 shirts that we ordered, we have currently sold 50.  I hope to sell all of the t-shirts and continue to raise money.

The Student Body Union Programming Committee was very gracious and donated enough money to cover the costs if we don’t break even and an additional $100.  I am very thankful for the generosity.

Smart Phone

I’ve been getting quite a few questions about what I would recommend to incoming 1st years.  One thing that gets overlooked so much is the fact that we live in a fast-pace society and being connected is becoming more and more important.  The best way to stay organized and in touch with all of your peers is with a smart phone.

I just got a Droid 4, and I absolutely love it.  It keeps my calendar, tasks, and email in sync with my school account.  No longer will I miss an event due to getting the email too late.

Anyone that doesn’t have a smart phone coming into STLCOP should highly consider it.  I know the cost is greater, but there isn’t really a reason to need a large data plan.  All smart phones can use the WiFi that the school provides. (skynet)

Being organized is extremely important at STLCOP and a smart phone can only aid you in this.

Have a great week!

Catching Up

A lot has happened since I last blogged.  I’ve taken a couple of tests.  I’ve met new people, and I am still learning and challenging myself every day.

It’s crazy to think that in a little over a month I will no longer be a 1st year.  Where did the time go?  I wouldn’t change anything that happened.  I enjoyed every minute of this past year and I am looking forward to the challenges and good times ahead.

Alright now down to business.  Have any of you been scared watching a horror movie?  Felt the hair straighten on your neck?  Your muscles become tense?  This is your body preparing for what is called the “fight or flight” response.  In biology last semester we discussed this but just recently I learned in human anatomy that this is a result of neurotransmitters and their receptors. Who knew?  The great thing about understanding how synapses affect how your body works is that I’m writing an essay for critical thinking & writing about new depression medications.  I hope to upload it here after it is graded!
